For its first international episode, Conversation by Design checks into Thailand to chat with Marissa Tree, a recent addition to the Corporate team at H+K Strategies Bangkok. where she leads a team of Thai PR professionals to deliver comms for local and international brands including Coca-Cola Thailand and Thai Union Frozen Product, the world’s leading producer and exporter of seafood products. As a new addition to the H+K Bangkok team, Marissa is now part of the growing Aussie expat community in Bangkok, bringing her experience from major network agencies including Red Agency and Ogilvy PR Worldwide and client-side experience at FoodWorks to the role. Marissa’s extensive experience in corporate comms management, traditional and digital PR strategy plays a key role in guiding her management of a blue-chip client portfolio and ambitious team.
So, how is PR in Thailand different to Australia? Do social and digital communications play a significant role alongside traditional PR strategy and tactics? In our discussion with Marissa, we learn that Thais are mad for Instagram and media launch events in Thailand are often a formal, highly orchestrated affair (unlike Aussie PR launches that are often more casual and bookmarked by a few post-show drinks!). Facebook is cited as the perfect forum for Thai comp promotions, we learn about region-specific social networks and tools, and we gain insights into paid vs earned strategies in blogger engagement in the region.
